COVID-19 Update

Coronavirus is changing the way the legal system operates. We are monitoring those changes to ensure that the interests of our clients are fully protected.

The spread of Coronavirus in New York State is posing challenges to all New Yorkers, including our clients, attorneys and staff. Our clients can rely on us to protect their rights.

Trials and Court Appearances:

The courts have restricted access to all courthouses. Previously scheduled trials and court appearances will be delayed. If you have an upcoming trial or other court appearance, it will almost certainly be adjourned. We will monitor your case and, as soon as your case is re-scheduled, advise you of the adjourned date for your case.

Appearances outside of the courthouse for depositions, hearings, arbitrations, mediations or medical examinations may be postponed:

If you are scheduled for a hearing or a deposition in March through May, it may be adjourned to a later date. Our office will notify you of all rescheduled dates. We appreciate your patience.

Please call our office two to three days before your scheduled date to check for any adjournments or postponements.

No-Fault Physicals/Examinations:

If you are scheduled for a no fault examination with your insurance company doctor, please call the doctor’s office to confirm your appointment. The contact information for the doctor can be found on the letter you received notifying you of the exam and the date. In addition, we also advise you to call the doctor’s office the day of the exam to confirm your appointment.

Defense Medical Examinations:

If you have a physical examination scheduled with a defense doctor for an independent medical examination, PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE the day before the exam to be sure that the scheduled exam is proceeding.

Court Appearances, Conferences, Court Mediations & Jury Trials:

In the event your appearance is required in court, for a mediation or trial, you will be notified by our office of all rescheduled court appearance dates on your case. If you do not hear from us before the court date, please call us the day before for further instructions before you go to any courthouse.

Mediations and Arbitrations:

If you have a mediation or arbitration hearing scheduled at places such as the America Arbitration Association (“AAA”), National Arbitration & Mediation (“NAM”), Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services (“JAMS”) or another non-court mediation service, this hearing may or may not proceed as scheduled or may be conducted over the phone. We will let you know. To be certain, please call our office the day before to confirm.

Bornstein & Emanuel Attorneys and Staff - Our Office Remains Open:

Some of our attorneys and legal support staff will be available on a limited basis in person at our office. The remainder of our attorneys and staff will be working remotely, as recommended by Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the City and State of New York, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Please do not come to our office without an appointment, as we may not be able to accommodate you.

We are urging everyone to take the risks of spreading Coronavirus very seriously, and are strongly requesting that you do not visit our office if you or someone you had contact with recently traveled to an area where Coronavirus is present either within the United Stated or abroad, were diagnosed with the Coronavirus, or have been advised to self-quarantine or isolate.

Please feel free to contact us by telephone or email to address any concerns.
